Call to Worship

Psalm 9:1-2 (ESV)

I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart;

I will recount all of your wonderful deeds.

I will be glad and exult in you;

I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.

10,000 Reasons (Bless The Lord)

(listen here)

Bless the Lord, O my soul, O my soul, worship His holy name

Sing like never before, O my soul, I'll worship Your holy name

The sun comes up; it's a new day dawning

It's time to sing Your song again

Whatever may pass and whatever lies before me

Let me be singing when the evening comes

Bless the Lord, O my soul, O my soul, worship His holy name

Sing like never before, O my soul, I'll worship Your holy name

You're rich in love, and You're slow to anger

Your name is great, and Your heart is kind

For all Your goodness I will keep on singing

Ten thousand reasons for my heart to find

Bless the Lord, O my soul, O my soul, worship His holy name

Sing like never before, O my soul, I'll worship Your holy name

And on that day when my strength is failing

The end draws near, and my time has come

Still my soul will sing Your praise unending

Ten thousand years, and then forevermore

Bless the Lord, O my soul, O my soul, worship His holy name

Sing like never before, O my soul, I'll worship Your holy name

Worshiping God by Confessing Our Faith

The Apostles' Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
the Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ,
His only Son, our Lord:
Who was conceived of the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell. [1]
The third day He arose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty,
whence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic [2] church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.
Amen.

1. Christ’s humiliation after his death consisted in his being buried, and continuing in the state of the dead, and under the power of death till the third day; which hath been otherwise expressed in these words, he descended into hell.

2. The word “catholic” refers not to the Roman Catholic Church, but to the universal church of the Lord Jesus Christ.

A Mighty Fortress is Our God

(listen here)

A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing
Our helper He, amid the flood of mortal ills prevailing
For still our ancient foe doth seek to work us woe
His craft and pow'r are great, and, armed with cruel hate
On earth is not his equal

Did we in our own strength confide, our striving would be losing,

Were not the right Man on our side, the Man of God's own choosing.

You ask who that may be? Christ Jesus, it is he;

Lord Sabaoth his name, from age to age the same;

And he must win the battle.

And though this world, with devils filled, should threaten to undo us
We will not fear, for God hath willed His truth to triumph through us
The Prince of Darkness grim, we tremble not for him
His rage we can endure, for lo, his doom is sure
One little word shall fell him

That word above all earthly pow'rs, no thanks to them, abideth
The Spirit and the gifts are ours through Him Who with us sideth
Let God's and kindred go, this mortal life also
The body they may kill: God's truth abideth still
His kingdom is forever

We Are Not Ashamed

(listen here)

The news of Jesus Christ, the crucified
Risen, reigning at the Father’s side
Is foolishness to those who cannot see
Blinded by the lies they have believed

So let the Church arise, let the anthem ring
Till all the world has heard of Christ the Risen King
The song of the redeemed boldly we shall sing
The hope of all the world is Christ the Risen King!

 We, we are not ashamed
For the gospel is the power of God to save
Yes, we, we are not ashamed
For we have no other Savior to proclaim
Christ alone, the Life, the Truth, the Way

The enemies of God are in a rage
Opposing Him, their efforts are in vain
Through every age the gospel will endure
The Spirit’s with the Church forevermore

So let the Church arise, let the anthem ring
Till all the world has heard of Christ the Risen King
The song of the redeemed boldly we shall sing
The hope of all the world is Christ the Risen King!

 We, we are not ashamed
For the gospel is the power of God to save
Yes, we, we are not ashamed
For we have no other Savior to proclaim

We, we are not ashamed
For we have a sure foundation in His grace
Yes, we, we are not ashamed
For we have a great salvation in His name
Christ alone, the Life, the Truth, the Way

Christ alone, the Life, the Truth, the Way

1 Thessalonians 1:1-10

Sermon: Imitating Christ

(watch online)

Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy,

To the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace.

We give thanks to God always for all of you, constantly mentioning you in our prayers, remembering before our God and Father your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. For we know, brothers loved by God, that he has chosen you, because our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction. You know what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake. And you became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you received the word in much affliction, with the joy of the Holy Spirit, so that you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia. For not only has the word of the Lord sounded forth from you in Macedonia and Achaia, but your faith in God has gone forth everywhere, so that we need not say anything. For they themselves report concerning us the kind of reception we had among you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.

Jesus, Lover of My Soul

(listen here)

Jesus, lover of my soul, let me to Thy bosom fly

While the nearer waters roll, while the tempest still is high

Hide me, O my Savior, hide, ’til life’s storm is past;

Safe into the haven guide; receive my soul at last.

Other refuge have I none, I helpless hang on Thee

Leave, ah, leave me not alone, still support and comfort me.

All my trust on Thee is stayed, help from Thee I bring

Cover my defenseless head in the shadow of Thy wing

Thou, O Christ, are all I want, more than all in Thee I find

Raise the fallen, cheer the faint, heal the sick and lead the blind

Just and holy is Thy Name, I am all unrighteousness

False and full of sin I am; Thou art full of truth and grace.

Plenteous grace with Thee is found, grace to cover all my sin;

Let the healing streams abound; make and keep me pure within

Thou of life, the fountain art, let me take of Thee

Spring Thou up within my heart: to all eternity.
